Sculptures

In these series of sculptures with similar exteriors but distinct interiors, I am drawing attention to the dichotomy between external control and internal freedom to show the struggles of living in oppressed societies. The exteriors metaphorically demonstrate how undemocratic regimes control citizenry, promote their social norms, ignore differences in their citizens, culturally homogenize subjects, as well as create a uniform army of similarly- thinking and acting individuals. The private and safe interior spaces of the sculptures symbolize what citizens can express, showing the diversity and individuality that exists despite external homogenizing forces.
